What is “Prehabilitation”?
Prehabilitation is care initiated prior to surgery designed to address specific weaknesses or potential complications to better prepare patients to face the challenges of surgery, thereby allowing them to recover quicker.
Unfortunately wait times for surgery in Nova Scotia have increased recently, but this time can still be used productively by completing a prehabilitation assessment and program to increase your Functional Ability before surgery. The idea is that these improvements made while waiting for surgery, leave patients with less issues to overcome post surgery. This strategy will shorten your recovery time, and accelerate your return to the normal activities and hobbies you enjoy.
Prehabilitation consists of a baseline assessment of physical strength, flexibility and common barriers to recovery. A personalized program is then prepared including coaching and education, aerobic and resistance exercises, as well as positive mental health strategies.

Myofascial Release Therapy (MFR)
is a gentle form of bodywork targeting the fascia which is found three dimensionally throughout the body. MFR is one of the few forms of bodywork that can be very effective for chronic symptoms/pain.
What is Fascia?
Fascia is a dense connective tissue that wraps around and interpenetrates all the muscles and organs starting at the cellular level, wrapping around the blood vessels, nerves, bones, as well as the brain and spinal cord. Fascia is traumatized from injuries, surgeries and poor posture, which overtime can lead to the tissue becoming tight and binding down on the structures it surrounds at tensile forces of up to 2000lbs/square inch.
What is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release Treatment is a safe and gently sustained pressure applied to the body by the therapist into the myofascial restrictions, which creates the ‘release’ within the fascial system. This release takes the pressure off tissues that have been affected by the binding tension of tight fascia, thereby easing pain, tension and restriction of movement.
